Today, we’ll cover the Yamaha EF2000ISV2 inverter generator.
In more ways than one, this Yamaha generator fits into the profile of everything we know to be small. For that size, we are not supposed to expect much from it.
When you take a peek under the hood, though, you would find out that Yamaha still found a way to make sure the unit can crank out enough energy to make it functional.
So, we have a highly-functional unit that has been especially optimized to carry its own weight on our hands. What gives?
For those who might not be familiar with Yamaha products, the Yamaha EF2000iSv2 generator is the second version in this series. This means that they have had the time to learn a lot from the first one and then, apply that knowledge to make valuable improvements on this new unit.
The very fact that another one was made also goes on to mean that the first was a success in its own way, and this one is sure to be a better success.
How is that so, you might ask?
Starting from the internals, this is a power generator which has the capacity to crank out as much as 2000 watts when starting operation. By the time the unit achieves steady state of operation, wattage still won’t drop to below 1600 watts.
Of course, this won’t power all the TVs in your home, but it will still do well to make sure the important pieces of equipment requiring electricity are being run.
When we are looking at portable units, this unit takes that definition further. Weighing just 44 pounds and coming with its own handle, you won’t have a problem lugging the generator around.
All that, and we have not even mentioned the noise – or lack thereof.
See, we know that generating sets are loud machines, no matter how they are made to be silent. However, this one just takes the game to a whole ‘nother level with the 61db noise level at maximum capacity.
If you won’t be running the machine to maximum all the time, you can be getting as low as 51.5 decibels for a 25% load.
Now that you know this is possible, you might also want to know that the machine doesn’t compromise on its engine because of its small size. Still featuring a 4-stroke OHV setup, you are sure to get all the power that has been advertised to come your way.
You don’t have to worry about damaging the environment anytime you are running this gasoline-based as its CARB, EPA and CSA compliant. You will be getting a unit which has been tested to operate in an environmentally-friendly way.
Features and Specifications
If you have been expecting this unit to have just a handful of features because of its small size, think again. Look through everything that this Yamaha EF2000ISV2 packs on board below and see what power is packed within that small frame.
Power – The Yamaha EF2000ISV2 has the ability to generate as much as 2000W when the operation is just starting. This is bound to drop when operations have reached a steady state, but it won’t drop below 1600W.
Engine – The engine build is unique and an improvement over the first one in this series. Under the hood is an air-cooled, single cylinder 4 stroke engine. The engine comes with excellent heat isolation technology.
Fuel tank – To ensure better functionality of the small unit, a fuel tank which can take as much as 1.1 gallons of gasoline has been fitted.
Run time – When the unit is taking a quarter of its load, it can run for up to 10.5 hours.
Smart throttle – This unit comes with a smart throttling feature. This is there to vary the speed of the engine in line with the load. That helps to maintain a fuel efficient and quieter performance.
Silent operation – The noise level of this unit is very fair for its size. Coming with mufflers, Smart Throttle™ and other noise elimination technology, the maximum noise rating is at 61db.
Extra inverter system – For those that don’t know, this unit comes with an inverter system with Pulse Width Modulation. That helps stabilize the voltage and frequency, generating a clean source of energy which can be used to power units such as DSLR cameras, mobile devices and other small.
Lightweight – It is amazing that the generator weighs just 44 pounds for all it offers. This is not a very light load to lift, but it is one of the best weights you would get on a portable generator of this capacity.
Handle – To aid better transportation, the unit comes with a comfortable rubber handle.
Vibration control – Rubber feet are installed to absorb excess vibration, helping to minimize the noise levels in the same vein.
Parallel connection support – One of the best things about this unit is that it allows you connect yet another Yamaha model to supply more power for your operations. It is tested and trusted to work with the earlier Yamaha EF2000iS.
Safety – Each unit of the Yamaha EF2000ISV2 is equipped with an oil watch warning system, the gasoline petcock, automatic circuit breaker and a control unit that is easy to reach.
Outlets – The small unit comes with multiple outlets: two 120V AC outlets and one 12V DC outlet
Ease of operation – Starting up the machine is as easy as can be, even in extreme temperatures. This is assured with the inbuilt auto decompression and auto warm up system which functions based on the prevalent conditions.
Fuel Petcock – Prevents the occurrence of stale gas problems and gumming up pf the carburetors
Centralized controls – The control panel has been placed in such a way that it is easy to access and almost impossible to miss.
DC Outlet – This allows foe the charging of external units such as batteries, directly from the unit.

Where the Yamaha 2000 Excels
If you have been following, you would know that one of the things we have fallen in love with is the size of this unit.
Yamaha has gone out of the way to make their 2000 Watt generator fit into the proper definition of portable. Even at that, it still manages to bring on some power for basic needs.
In the case this power is suddenly not enough, the generator allows you connect up to two more units for the generation of even more wattage.
That said, lugging it around won’t be an issue. At 44 pounds, it is absolutely possible to carry this thing almost everywhere you go. That is made easier with the addition of a rubber handle.
After making the first unit, Yamaha went back to the drawing board to make a couple of important changes. One of such changes is evident in the centralized controls to make everything the operator needs accessible to them from one place.
They went a notch further by incorporating a Smart Throttle™ system – which is bound to adjust the operation of the machine according to the load it is supporting, helping to achieve better output while not overworking the unit.
This generator is more quiet than most because of its Smart Throttle™ tech we talked about to the provision of rubberized feet which helps to eliminate vibration and unnecessary noise.
On the back of that, we do have the presence of a fuel petcock too. Say goodbye to the stale gas build up problems and leakages that could damage your carburetor from now on.
Speaking of damages, it has been ensured that the Yamaha 2000 Watt generator be able to take care of itself before total maintenance. That is why the circuit breaker will kick in to prevent an overload while the low oil auto shutoff sensor will kill the machine rather than let the engine knock.
Where the Yamaha 2000 Fails
This unit is expensive for what it offers.
However, you know you will be getting a premium product. Again, though, you might have to live with the idea of constantly changing your oil since this one burns through it fairly quickly.
Another thing to report is that this power generating set might not give you all you want in terms of power. It won’t be able to power the very heavy appliances.
Performance in terms of run time with this model is still a little worse than other models in its power class.
Although the Yamaha 2000 is lightweight, there are other generators in its power class even more lightweight and portable.
The Yamaha 2000 watt generator is best suited to those who have to move around a lot and need a steady power source for their small devices. It will power your laptops, mobile devices, cameras and such other digital devices.
It would thus be a great fit for campers, journalists, and every other person on the move.
If you have the need for a small unit to handle minor operations too, this will get the job done for you. Should you have other heavy-duty appliances that you’d like to run on an alternate power source, though, know that this machine won’t be an ideal pick.

Conclusion: Should I buy the Yamaha 2000?
No, for a few reasons. Although the Yamaha EF2000ISV2 is a quality generator with solid performance within its power class… You can get the same or better performance, with even easier portability from other generators at 1/3 of the price.
The Champion 2000 or Westinghouse iGen2200 are better options.
I’ve always been a lover of Mechanics and the engineering that goes on behind it. Naturally had a knack for fixing things and i’ve had lots of adventures that generators are second nature to me.
